OUR STORY
What We Were Born To Do
STORY
In 1964, in a small fishing village in Ayukawa Town, Fukui Prefecture, Kazuma began with a single domestically produced “Yamasen” knitting machine.
With companions who gathered saying, “Let's endure the hardships together,” they honed their skills and built trust while sharing food, clothing, and shelter. At the core of this lies a strong conviction: the company's future is built by the strength and passion of each and every employee—‘creating the company's destiny’.
STORY
Every day, we interact with both fiber and machinery as if they were living things. With the belief that ‘God is in the details’ at heart, each employee engages in a constant dialogue with every machine and every fabric, persistently seeking the 'thread' to solve each challenge. This restless spirit of inquiry and dedication has become the bedrock of 'Kazuma’s Technology' and the driving force behind our quest for excellence.
STORY
Suffering under unreasonable demands as a subcontractor, we sought freedom and pride in our craft. In 1990, we established our own integrated production and sales system. We believe that doing what is right will naturally guide us forward. Strengthening this conviction, we operate under the principle of “Management Based on Justice.” We have forged a path to create a virtuous cycle for society and the environment through our products, wishing for the enrichment of the lives of our employees and customers.
STORY
In 2003, when the world closed its doors due to SARS and even travel to China was difficult. Believing that “precisely because of this, it was worth the challenge,” factories were built in Hangzhou City and Fuyang City. This step into the unknown soon blossomed into a strong bond with our Chinese staff, growing into a path to build the future together. Even when facing difficulties, we extend a helping hand and support each other—inheriting that spirit, and we continue to focus our efforts on the employment and support of people from diverse nations.
STORY
What truly holds value for customers who hold KAZUMA products in their hands? What constitutes a sustainable choice for humanity? In an era of rapid environmental and value shifts, the role curtains play is also changing significantly. We pursue the potential of fabric, innovating functional materials and products, and developing products that redefine the very concept of window treatments.
More Abundant, Ever Happier.
Kazuma's DNA, passed down since our founding, is rooted in the hearts and skills of our employees. It continues to evolve into manufacturing that enriches the future for both people and the planet.
Making 'Working Together' the Norm for Everyone.
#Diversity
Aiming for workplaces where every individual is respected. At Kazuma, we are advancing the creation of workplaces where everyone can find fulfillment through the employment and active support of people with disabilities. In an environment where communication tailored to individual needs is learned and established, all employees can fully utilize their respective strengths. We also welcome young Myanmar engineers displaced from their homeland by war. and lifestyle. Growing together beyond differences—that is the “form of diversity” Kazuma strives for.
Gentle on Skin and Soul.
#Health and Safety
Chemical fibers enable efficient production of uniform products. But behind this, there are people suffering from chemical sensitivity, atopic dermatitis, and other conditions caused by intolerance to chemicals. Kazuma listens to these “voices of the few” and aims to create products that transform ‘hardship’ into “gentleness.” This vision gave birth to the “Atatakami Project,” dedicated to researching plant-based dyeing. Fabrics dyed with natural colors are gentle on the skin and bring peace to the heart. Technology and design that support people are essential to the future Kazuma envisions.
Turning Trash into Treasure: The Fabric Recycling Revolution.
#ZeroWaste
At Kazuma, we center our approach around the 3R principles (Reduce ,Reuse,Recycle) to create manufacturing processes that generate no waste.
We've re-examined our manufacturing process to eliminate waste fabric, pursuing two directions. One is upcycling, where discarded fabric scraps and defective items are transformed into high-value fabric goods through design and creativity. leveraging the advanced sewing techniques cultivated through curtain production. The second is material recycling, where we return polyester fabric to its raw material state and reuse it in new products, achieving material circulation and efficient resource utilization.
Creating New Cycles in the Soil, in the Fields, with Cloth.
#CircularEconomy
Reclaiming the wasteland overlooking the Ayukawa Factory, the origin of Kazuma. Future plans include creating fields to cultivate plants for natural dyeing materials, utilizing recovered 100% biodegradable natural fabric curtains. Additionally, at the field next to the headquarters, the company cultivates its own indigo, extracts dye, and sells dyed products. Washi cloth has been verified to enhance crop nutritional value as it decomposes in soil. New life is growing from this field.
Sharing Wisdom on Household Chores and Child-rearing.
#WorkLifeBalance
At Kazuma, we value teamwork and are committed to creating an environment where employees support each other. At the initiative of employees, we held a “Kazuma Mothers' Roundtable,” where working parents openly shared their anxieties and struggles. They also exchanged tips for efficient housework and information. Additionally, at the “Parents a Discussion Group,” employees freely discussed topics such as how to spend holidays, sharing household chores, insurance, and child-rearing concerns. These forums support improvements in work-life balance.
Work through Support and Technology.
#Welfare
Kazuma's brand “matect” develops products by connecting discarded curtain fabric edges. The sewing work is entrusted to Tactis, a Type B Employment Support Facility (Fukui Minami and Fukui Nishi Offices). Kazuma provides sewing machines and technical guidance, advancing the collaborative creation process together.
With the mindset of “turning the impossible into the possible,” we value creating valuable products together with everyone at the support center.
Reducing CO₂ Emissions Through the Power of Textiles.
#CarbonNeutral
We are working to measure and reduce carbon dioxide emissions across our entire factory, decrease energy usage, and simultaneously advance product development utilizing our proprietary functional textiles. By maximizing the material properties in functional curtains, fashion, disaster prevention, and outdoor goods, we contribute to countering global warming and reducing energy consumption. Guided by the Ministry of the Environment's decarbonization guidelines, we are achieving both sustainable factory operations and product development for a sustainable society.
